Rep. Kirkpatrick Votes on Stopping Bad Robocalls Act
(Washington) — Today, Rep. Kirkpatrick released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 3375 Stopping Bad Robocalls Act, legislation that would require the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to adopt critical consumer protections, require all carriers, over time, to implement a new technology to make sure that caller-ID information is appropriately authenticated with no additional line item charge for consumers on their bill, allow the blocking of calls in a reasonable manner without an extra charge, and more.
“Southern Arizonans have had enough of the pervasive robocall epidemic, not only do they interfere with service and often accrue fees, but they also scam consumers with fraudulent claims,” said Rep. Kirkpatrick. “An estimated 80.9 million robocalls were made in Arizona, just last month and so many of these calls are frauds looking to extract personal information or trick Americans into giving up their hard-earned money. We have had enough, I am proud of the House Majority for bringing this bipartisan legislation to the floor and answering the call from Americans, not scam artists.”
